New Additions – Civil War Era Newspapers and A Death Camp

New additions to the collections of the Government and Heritage Library:

Salisbury: Civil War Death Camp in North Carolina, by Richard Masterson. An historical novel based upon the prisoner of war experience of a Union soldier at the death camp of Salisbury, where thousands died and were buried in mass graves.

The Confederacy’s Secret Weapon: the Civil War Illustrations of Frank Vizetelly, by Douglas Bostick.  What was it like to read a newspaper during the Civil War? Highlighting the work of war correspondent Frank Vizetelly, this book chronicles the the illustrated newspaper and its impact during the Civil War. The book contains illustrations  showing the wood cut engravings that depicted Civil War battles and events.

Thanks to a federal grant, these items will be available for check out at the Government and Heritage Library by North Carolina State Agency  employees or you may borrow them through an interlibrary loan request at your local public library.
