Pop Culture Hits NCpedia

If you’re an NCpedia regular, you know we’ve been adding new entries every day.  We’re especially excited about our recently added entries on some of North Carolina’s popular entertainers.

Here’s an excerpt from the NCpedia entry on legendary North Carolina singer-songwriter, James Taylor:

In an interview in 2000, Taylor told The Charlotte Observer, “What I remember most about Chapel Hill is the landscape. I tell my kids that we were pre-TV and there was a lot of empty time there, slow weekends when you just walked into the woods and found whatever you could to kill time. There was this long, uninterrupted time to let your imagination grow. I believe that was an important part of whatever creative life I’ve had.”

Taylor isn’t North Carolina’s only famous contemporary musician. Recently, North Carolina has been making pop culture news as a hotbed of American Idol finalists and winners.  To learn more about each of these North Carolina Idols, and to find out what they are doing now,  look up your favorites in NCpedia.

Maya Angelou, a singer, dancer, composer, director, actress, and author is an entertainment icon who has called North Carolina home for over thirty years.  A professor, civil-rights leader, and philanthropist, Angelou’s significant impact in North Carolina continues to be far-reaching.  To find out more about Angelou’s life, check out the NCpedia entry about her.
