State Doc Pick of the Week: North Carolina’s Military Footprint: Current Economic Impacts and Projections for 2013

Created in June 2008  by the N.C. Policy, Research and Strategic Planning Division of the Department of Commerce, this publication provides information on how military installations provide economic development in North Carolina.

The military provides a significant economic boost to the state.  North Carolina has the fourth-largest active duty population in the U.S. and in 2007 military activities added over $23 Billion to North Carolina (p.1).  Additional figures for military installations, military and civilian payroll by county, military contracts and grants performed in North Carolina by County, and direct military benefits by county are some of the data and tables that are presented in this publication.
