New additions to the collections of the Government and Heritage Library:
The Corps and the Shore, by Orrin Pilkey and Katharine Dixon. This book examines the coastal erosion management methods of the U.S Army Corps of Engineers. The impact of coastal processes on developed areas - wind, waves and storms – and suggestions for improving Corps of Engineers’ coastal science and management are emphasized.
Into the Sound Country: A Carolinian’s Coastal Plain, by Bland Simpson. A personal portrait of North Carolina’s coastal plain by two natives – writer Bland Simpson and photographer Ann Simpson. The book explores Elizabeth City, Hertford, Southport, Pasuotank swamps, Croatan pine savannas, Core Banks fishing shanties, and the Roanoke River oyster bars.
