Explore the Lighthouses of North Carolina in NCpedia

NCpedia’s new “Lighthouses of North Carolina Map” makes it easy to experience these historical gems of North Carolina. Use links on the map to learn more about the rich history of each of the lighthouses in NCpedia, or begin planning your own trip to visit them!  Since 1795, lighthouses have guided mariners through the notoriously dangerous waters of the ‘Graveyard of the Atlantic’ off the coast of North Carolina. They are important cultural symbols of the Tar Heel State, attracting many tourists each year.  Recently, Cape Hatteras Lighthouse was featured as number two in the Top 100 Icons of North Carolina in Our State Magazine. Also be sure to check out this guide  of links and resources from the State Library of North Carolina for experiencing each of the 100 icons!
