North Carolina State Fair premium list, cover (1937)
This idealized view of “man” is done in the style of the 19th-century European artistic movement of the same name. (See, for example, Demosthenes at the Sea Shore by A. Bernard Sykes.) In his hands, our North Carolina man holds the State seal and a paper, perhaps representing knowledge or progress.

It’s October and you know what’s it is almost time for? The State Fair of North Carolina! This week’s pic is of the cover of the 1937 North Carolina State Fair premium list.

To celebrate the upcoming celebration of all things fried and NC agriculture we will be highlighting State Fair images and publications from the North Carolina Digital Collections in the next few weeks.

The State Fair is a great place to create long lasting memories. Why don’t you share yours at our site, Blue Ribbon Memories? We would love for you to add your State Fair story or photo to the collection!  Add your memory here, http://statelibrarync.org/omeka/items/browse.
