 cwhatterasThe Civil War on Hatteras: The Chicamacomico Affair and the Capture of the U.S. Gunboat Fanny, by Lee Oxford. Presented in this book is the history of the Civil War on Hatteras Island, site of the first Confederate capture of an armed Union vessel the U.S. gunboat Fanny, and the first combined amphibious assault of the Confederate army and Navy. The Chicamacomico Affair at Live Oak encampment featured harrowing acts of valor by the 20th Indiana Regiment as well as a path toward victory for the Confederates.






The Wilmington & Weldon Railroad Company in the Civil War, by James Burke. Put to the ultimate test during the Civil War, the Wilmington & Weldon Railroad Company saw the deterioration of its rails and equipment and experienced numerous other challenges – from the capricious Confederate bureaucracy and its runaway economic inflation, to sabotage; the spread of yellow fever; Union raids; the fall of Wilmington; and the destruction of locomotives, train cars, track, and bridges by retreating Confederate troops.
