North Carolina County of the Week: Gates County, North Carolina

Gates County, North Carolina is the NC County of the Week for January 11 – 17, 2015.

Gates County, NC

Situated on the Virginia/North Carolina boarder Gates County was created in 1779. This county in northeastern NC was formed from Chowan, Hertford, and Perquimans Counties.  Its namesake is General Horatio Gates, an American brigadier general in the Revolutionary War who was victorious in the 1777 Battle of Saratoga.
