Conservation Gardener title pageConservation Gardener is a, new, semiannual periodical published by the North Carolina Botanical Garden. The goal of this serial is to help people “better understand, appreciate and conserve North Carolina’s natural heritage and build a more sustainable relationship with the natural world”.

In it, you will find articles, pictures, and guides all related to conserving plants and appreciating nature. Some topic examples that you may find include citizen science, wildflowers, garden sustainability, conserving habitats, and other various information and guides related to garden conservation and nature. You can also find information on events held by the North Carolina Botanical Garden.

Air Quality Color GuideThis Air Quality Color Guide is produced by the North Carolina Division of Air Quality, a part of theĀ North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources.

The guide came out it in 2015 and explains air quality and the color system used to determine if the air quality is good or bad at a given time. The guide has a nice chart of the air quality color system and explains the parameters and guidelines for each color.

This guide also gives you tips on air care for the environment, how air quality affects health, who is at risk, how to protect your health, and how to get the daily air quality forecast.

State Doc Pick of the Week : NC Career Clusters Guide

NC Career Clusters Guide title pageThe North Carolina Career Clusters Guide is a guide “designed to be a tool that targets the career pathways needed to meet educational and employment goals”. It was produced by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction and the North Carolina Community College System.

This guide was created primarily for students, parents, counselors, faculty, and career changers. The guide covers: how to use the guide, discovering your career interests, clusters and their pathways, gaining career-related experience, experiencing real jobs, exploring the job market, and more.

The clusters are designed in a way that organize more than 900 careers. There are 16 clusters where each cluster is made up of occupations which require similar knowledge and skills.

State Doc Pick of the Week : Explorations

Explorations titleExplorations is a journal dedicated to undergraduate research and creative activities for the state of North Carolina. It is published, annually, by the University of North Carolina Wilmington.

This journal covers many different subject areas, all from undergraduate students in North Carolina. Some of the subjects include: biology, humanities, mathematics, economics, social sciences, engineering and more. You can also find some information about the student authors as well as their faculty mentors for the work they are presenting in the journal.

Eligibility for submission requires that the author of the work be an undergraduate student at a 2 or 4 year college or university in North Carolina. The author must also be working on something original under the direction of a faculty mentor. They accept research papers, critical essays, or media submissions of performing and fine art.
