State Doc Pick of the Week : North Carolina Awards

Tnorth carolina awards coverhe North Carolina Awards started in 1961 and have been given annually since 1964. They are given to North Carolinian’s who have accomplished things in the fields of fine art, literature, public service and science. This award “is the highest civilian honor the Governor and the State of North Carolina can bestow”.

The awards are hosted through the North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources. The document provides the award winners and a description of their qualifications for winning the award as well as some biographical information about each winner. It also provides a list of past years recipients. There is some information about the awards ceremony and a program of the ceremony including the different speakers who attended the event.

SADD EmblemThe North Carolina SADD, students against destructive decisions, newsletter. is produced by the North Carolina Youth Advocacy and Involvement Office, a part of the NC Department of Administration. This newsletter provides updates, news, and information regarding SADD and its North Carolina chapter.

This is an organization that is “committed to saving lives by empowering teens to stand strong against destructive decisions”.

Some of the things included in the newsletter are membership information, chapter news, conference information, student advisory board information, chapter registration information, and information on other various projects and news. This newsletter is released 6 times a year.

ReVisions title pageReVisions is a publication from The University of North Carolina at Pembroke that contains the “finest nonfiction work composed by undergraduate students” at UNCP.

The publication is copy edited, designed, and produced by students at UNCP and the essays can cover topics in any field of study offered at UNCP. The essays submitted must be nonfiction and they must be nominated by a UNCP faculty member. This publication is produced annually, in the spring.

There are a wide variety of topics covered. If you browse through a few issues and check the table of contents, there is surely something there that may interest you or someone you know. It is also a great way to see the quality of work that exceptional students are doing.

This guide covers: election law changes, voting options, candidates for judicial positions in North Carolina, candidate statements, county board of election office information, information about the State Board of Elections, and more.

This is a great guide to help acclimate the people of North Carolina to the people running for the N.C. Supreme Court and the N.C. Court of Appeals. Looking through the candidates information and their statements may help you decide who you might vote for in the upcoming election.
