Presented by the North Carolina Government and Heritage Library and the State Archives of North Carolina. Presentations will focus on local collections and resources for local and family history research. Local records, libraries and archives are a treasure trove of excellent information to Start @Home for research. Tips & Tricks for successful viewing of the Virtual Family History Fair via Livestream:

  • A PC or laptop is recommended for best quality stream.
  • A wired internet connection is strongly recommended.
  • Download the Livestream app if viewing on mobile device.
  • Make sure your volume is turned up (PC, speakers, etc.).
  • Do a pre-event run-through prior to the broadcast.

Public Service Changes

slnc-logo-500-wideOn Monday, May 4, 2015, the North Carolina Government and Heritage Library in the State Library of North Carolina will implement changes in its onsite public service desk location and operating hours. Staff will begin serving all library visitors – North Carolina government and history researchers and genealogical researchers – from a single public service desk located on the West Mezzanine level of the Library. Our new service hours will be Monday-Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm and Saturday, 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.

Free Workshop: Finding Your African-American Ancestors, 1870 – 1940

African-American Ancestors Genealogy Workshop

This workshop will introduce research resources for finding African-American ancestors from post-emancipation 1870 to 1940. We will discuss what materials are available at both the North Carolina Government and Heritage Library and the State Archives of North Carolina.

This will be the first in a series of African-American genealogy focused workshops offered on a yearly basis.
