North Carolina Writers

New additions to the collections of the Government and Heritage Library:

The Rough Road Home: Stories by North Carolina Writers, Robert Gingher, Ed.

The editor has gathered 22 stories by contemporary writers with North Carolina roots, including Maya Angelou, Jill McCorkle, Reynolds Price, Lee Smith, Doris Betts, and many more.

 

Words from Home: Writers in the North Carolina Literary Hall of Fame, Georgann Eubanks, Ed.

This book presents the work of 26 authors from the North Carolina Literary Hall of Fame representing each region of the state and era in history. Authors represented include: Louis D. Ruben, Paul Green, James Boyd, Harriet Ann Jacobs, John Hope Franklin, O. Henry, and John Ehle.

Library materials will be available for check out at the Government and Heritage Library by North Carolina State Agency employees or may be borrowed through an interlibrary loan request at your local public library. To view other new library acquisitions, click here.

In honor of Women’s History month we wanted to highlight the 1804 novel, Matilda Berkely; or, Family Anecdotes  written by Winifred Marshall Gales .  This is the  first novel ever published in North Carolina written by a resident of the state.

Matilda Berkely is a romantic novel describing family life in England and Russia. (more…)
